Does Set Theory Cause Perceptual Problems?

Authors: W. Mückenheim

Some results of transfinite set theory are nonsensical. Nevertheless many mainstream mathematicians cannot accept but try to silence any critique. It appears as if a mass-psychosis has infected them.

Explanation of Qualia and Self-Awareness Using Elastic Membrane Concept

Authors: Alexander Egoyan

In this work we show that our self-awareness and perception may be successfully explained using two dimensional holistic structures with closed topology embedded into our brains - elastic membranes. These membranes are able to preserve their structure during conscious processes. Their elastic oscillations may be associated with our perceptions, where the frequency of the oscillations is responsible for the perception of different colors, sounds and other stimuli, while the amplitude of the oscillations is responsible for the feeling of a distance. According to the model the squeezed regions of a membrane correspond to the brain zones involved into awareness and attention. The model may be useful for prediction, explanation and interpretation of various conscious phenomena.

Goal, Free-Will and Qualia in Biological Evolution

Authors: Janko Kokosar
Comments: 13 Pages. It is published in FQXi contest 2016/2017.

The author is developing the idea that genes were not enough in evolution to create goals, because the first goals should have arisen quickly. This is another clue that consciousness exists also at unicellular organisms. Besides, qualia are more primitive form of a goal. Consciousness is composed of qualia and free-will, and both need new physics. Free-will is based also on quantum consciousness. Although it seems that it is disproved by Tegmark, it is very obvious, thus it cannot be disproved until it will not be clarified what a physical base of consciousness is. Quantum consciousness is based also on panpsychism, which has already some support in mainstream science. Explanations of goal, free-will, qualia, and consciousness are also things of explanation of time. It is shown how time is connected with matter and how with consciousness. At the end it is criticized, how official science too much ignores goals and ideas of authors that do not belong to it.

A Proposed Mechanism for the Induction of Bone Loss as a Function of Chronic Envy

Authors: William W. Sabol

The dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) has been shown to be uniquely activated when people engage in envy. Similarly, dACC is the major component of a proposed adversity processing circuit that predicts risks to prevent destructive behaviors and inhibit release of dopamine and serotonin, which play a significant role in skeletal health. A causal relationship may therefore exist between chronic envy and the induction of lowered bone mineral density (BMD) as a result of dACC activation.
