Astronomers have cataloged signs of nine heavy metals in the infrared light from supergiant and giant stars. The data comprising this image were gathered by the Wide Field Camera 3 aboard the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. For almost 10 years, astronomers have been studying a mysterious diffuse radiation coming from the centre of our galaxy. Deep beneath a mountain in the Apennine range in Italy, an intricate apparatus searches for the dark matter of the universe.
