When photons of light interact with particles of matter, a diverse variety of physical processes can unfold in ultrafast timescales.  Physicists can explore tailored physical systems to rapidly solve challenging computational tasks by developing spin simulators, combinatorial optimization and focusing light through scattering media.  When exposed to intense laser pulses, the magnetization of a material can be manipulated very fast.  A new laser-pointing platform developed at MIT may help launch miniature satellites into the high-rate data game.
