Recently, the chemists Sebastian Mai and Leticia González from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vienna succeeded in simulating the extremely fast spin flip processes that are triggered by the light absorption of metal complexes. University of Tokyo researchers have announced a new approach for electrical cooling without the need for moving parts. When electrons that repel each other are confined to a small space, they can form an ordered crystalline state known as a Wigner crystal. A new experiment that tests the limit of how large an object can be before it ceases to behave quantum mechanically has been proposed by physicists in the UK and India.
