Toor explained that his team works to understand the evolutionary origins of 70 percent of human DNA—a portion made up of two types of genetic elements, which are both thought to have evolved from group II introns.  "Our goal is to ultimately be able to analyse all of a cell's signals," says János Vörös, Head of the Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioelectronics and last author of the publication. Nonetheless, the method can already be used to localise transport proteins in a living cell.  The team created nanostructures—in the shapes of triangles and squares—using stable proteinbuilding blocks.
